About Fran Zhao
Career to dateI moved to New Zealand when I was 6 years old, attending primary school in the Hutt Valley, and then Wellington Girls’ College. I was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand in 2013, having graduated from Victoria University the previous year.
Prior to joining Gibson Sheat, I worked at a general practice firm in Wellington where I gained invaluable experience acting for both private and commercial clients.
My recent work
My approach to working with my clientsAs a fluent speaker of Mandarin, I am committed to helping Mandarin speaking clients, or those who prefer speaking Mandarin, through the conveyancing process.
Every client’s circumstances and requirements are different, so it’s very important to take the time to listen - understanding a client’s situation is paramount to delivering pragmatic advice and tailored solutions that will best achieve the desired result.
My most rewarding experience at workAssisting clients into their first home is always so rewarding. A recent example that was especially rewarding was where a young couple didn’t realise they qualified for both their Kiwisaver withdrawal and the Housing New Zealand HomeStart grant – they were so happy when they found out they could get an additional $6,000.00 towards the cost of their first home, and it made such a difference to them.
The best piece of advice I've ever been given“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” - Dr. Seuss
What stimulates me?Unexpected challenges and the rewards that come with it.
What I enjoy outside of workSpending time with friends, reading a good book, and exploring the world.
If I wasn't a lawyer I'd...be an architect. I'd love to work on the restoration and conservation of historic buildings.
