About David Sarginson

Career to date
"Since being admitted to the bar in 1976 I have had a particular interest in property law. I have specialised in this area completing a wide range of transactions from one-off residential conveyancing to major subdivisions, local government and commercial conveyancing transactions as well as trusts and private client work.

As well as using my knowledge in this area to assist in the development of the firm's automated conveyancing package, conveyIT Workflow , I also helped develop, and looked after, the firm's mortgage aggregation and broking business, which has now been sold to a major nationwide financial services company."

David's interest is in property and trust law and, in this area, he has many years experience.  His expertise includes general property law, subdivisions and commercial property work, as well as local government, residential and commercial conveyancing, and private client work.  David acts for leading property developers and land subdividers in the Wellington region.  He has drafted the full range of land covenants, easements, licences, etc for a wide range of clients.

After being a partner in the firm since 1987, David became a consultant from January 2019. He continues to work in the property team in our Lower Hutt office.

My Recent Work
Now that the firm's mortgage aggregation business has been sold, I am concentrating on my private client base as well as focusing on the firm's conveyancing workflow system conveyIT Workflow.
conveyIT Workflow
David was instrumental in developing the firm's conveyancing workflow system known as conveyIT.  This is a fully automated/integrated workflow system sold to independent law firms and currently operating in over 40 firms nationwide.
My approach to working with my clients
I try to empathise with my clients and obtain a cost effective result for them.
An instance when I've given a client a real competitive edge
With 30 years of property and conveyancing experience, I bring a wealth of practical knowledge to each transaction for the benefit of my clients.
The best piece of advice I've ever been given
My father advised me to "Live by your own standards". This means don't lower your principles to meet other people's lesser expectations.
What stimulates me
I get a buzz out of helping people achieve things as well as achieving things myself; whether at sport, work or projects around home.
What I enjoy outside of work
I love participating in a variety of sports as well as being an armchair supporter. I play golf and tennis and enjoy bike riding and watch all kiwi sports. I enjoy spending spare time with family and friends.
If I wasn't a lawyer I'd be...
An architect or engineer, as I like to plan and create things.
