Louise is a Senior Associate in our litigation team who specialises in health law and accident compensation cases (ACC). Louise also has considerable experience and expertise assisting clients with general civil and commercial disputes.

 
Louise can assist you with:

  • contractual disputes.


Louise joined Gibson Sheat in 2019 after five years at a law firm in Wellington, New Zealand focusing on complex medico-legal litigation, specialising in claims related to the ACC. During this time, she was also involved in mental health litigation and criminal defence work. Louise has also previously worked in-house at a large government department.

 

Louise has won several high-profile cases including:

 

  • a solider initially declined cover on the basis that cumulative exposure to traumatic events did not meet the test for mental injury cover under the Accident Compensation Act 2001;

  • a women severely injured as a baby who was declined cover by ACC; read about it here; and

  • a rescuer in the Christchurch Earthquake who was declined cover read about it here


Louise is experienced with disputes related to weekly compensation, attendant care, treatment injuries, lump sum/independence allowances, surgery declines, and home modifications.

Out of work, you’ll find her on a football field somewhere in Wellington, volunteering as a committee member at Island Bay United Association Football Club or volunteering at Community Law Wellington.
