About

For over two decades James's successful practice has undertaken a broad range of residential and commercial property work, and he has a particular interest in trust law and trust law reform.

Before joining Gibson Sheat, James was a property partner at firms in Wellington and Auckland, and he continues to act for clients in both cities. He has significant experience in a wide range of personal client work (residential property, trusts and estate planning) and commercial property work (sales and purchases, financing and leasing).

James' goal is to give clients peace of mind that their legal affairs are in order. He is an approachable, down-to-earth lawyer, with a diplomatic and meticulous approach to the practice of law. James particularly enjoys the problem solving aspects of his work and his clients tell him that he has a knack for explaining complex legal concepts in an easy to understand way.

James's involvement with organisations outside of Gibson Sheat, include:

  • A member of the International Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners
  • A member of the Property Law Section of the NZ Law Society
  • A Trustee of the Hutt Valley High School Board of Trustees

Away from the office, James enjoys spending time with his family, travelling and cooking.
