About Donna

Career to date
I started my law degree at Victoria University in 2009 while trying to convince my eldest son that he wanted to study law (which he didn’t). I’m now re-entering the workforce after choosing to spend time at home with my children. I was admitted to the bar on 25 September 2015.

BC (Before Children) I worked in a variety of roles at Housing New Zealand, mainly as a tenancy mediator.
Professional associations and community organisations
  • Masterton Community Orchestra
  • Long-term volunteer involvement with Playcentre and La Leche League
My approach to working with my clients
I’m approachable and a good listener who provides practical, easy to understand advice.
My most rewarding experience at work
One of the biggest achievements in my life is completing my law degree as a mature student, while juggling competing family demands.  I am also very proud of winning the Cullen Employment Law prize, in my final year of study, for coming top of the class in Employment Law.
The best piece of advice I've ever been given
Good advice from one of my primary school teachers was “When you’re climbing a mountain, take small steps”.  I’ve seen this as relevant in many aspects of my life, not just when dealing with physical mountains.
What stimulates me?
I enjoy research and problem-solving.  I know that there is an answer to the problem, it just needs to be found.  I like working with people and helping them contribute to their own positive outcomes.
What I enjoy outside of work
Time with my family.  Watching my children play sport.  I enjoy travel, especially to places that present physical challenges and I love going to the theatre.  Playing the violin and music generally has always been a big part of my life.
If I wasn't a lawyer I'd...
be a professional violinist, having played the violin from the age of 6 and completed a B.Mus majoring in violin performance.
