"I joined Gibson Sheat in their commercial team as a graduate and stayed with the firm for over two and a half years.

When I graduated I was unsure of the exact areas of law which would appeal to me and suit my skills. One of the great things about working at GS is the varied work you are given, you are not limited to one area of law. This is really important as it enables you to get a taste for what type of law you enjoy and are good at. Also over time I was consulted with as to what other areas of law I would like to gain experience in and what areas I would further like to develop. There was one particular partner who was my supervisor and we would generally meet once a week to go through any problems or questions I may have. There is also a very friendly team at GS and everyone has an open door policy if you want to discuss any questions or issues and believe me you always have a lot especially when you first start! It is really important to be able to feel comfortable to ask questions and to feel like you are a part of a team which you really do as GS.

Another aspect of GS I really valued is the about of client interaction you are given. For the first while you may just sit in on meetings with clients but it is not too long before you can meet with a few clients by yourself and you are phoning and emailing clients independently. . In my opinion this is really important for your confidence and growth as a lawyer.
