About Ian Miller

Career to date

I started my legal career at J K Miller Lawyer in Dunedin. Being a small practice I was exposed to a broad range of legal work. A highlight was conducting my first defended hearing at the Balclutha District Court.

Ian moved to Wellington in November 2010 to join Gibson Sheat's litigation team.  Since then he has been involved in range of litigation and dispute resolution work with a focus on insolvency and debt recovery.

My approach to working with my clients

I like to build a good rapport with clients. I listen to a client's requirements, give considered pragmatic advice and keep in touch throughout the engagement.  

The best piece of advice I've ever been given

Think carefully about what you want to achieve then work hard to make sure you get it.

What stimulates me

Disputes are a reality of life. It is stimulating and rewarding to be able to help people through these times. I also like the challenge of putting together a strong case.

What I enjoy outside of work

I enjoy a wide range of sports. I was a member of the University of Otago Harriers and the Albany Hockey Club in Dunedin. I also like to get out for a round of golf or a kayak when the conditions are right. It has been fun experiencing some of what Wellington has to offer such as its great cafes and bars.
