About Nigel Moody

Career to date

Nigel joined the commercial division of Gibson Sheat in 1987 and became a commercial partner in the firm in 1991.  Nigel practices in two main areas:

  • commercial law where he has expertise in company law and corporate governance issues, prospectuses and securities law, joint ventures and other related contracts, and banking and finance,
  • commercial property covering mainly acquisitions, sales, developments including construction development agreements and leasing.

Nigel is experienced in providing corporate and commercial advice to boards and contract drafting and negotiation of a variety of different entities.  He has managed large projects from a legal perspective including court approved schemes of arrangement, initial public offers and significant construction projects.

My Recent Work

Reading New Zealand

I represent the Reading New Zealand group of companies.  Reading is an American owned cinema operator and property developer.  My team and I advise Reading on all of their New Zealand corporate and banking requirements, as well as all property advice, including advice on leasing and development.

CentrePort Limited

In particular, I have advised CentrePort on the development, construction and leasing of two major developments within the CentrePort precinct in Wellington, for BNZ and Customs respectively.

Open Country Cheese Company

I represented this company from the date of its formation until its takeover by Dairy Trust in 2008.

Kaimai Cheese Company Limited

Kaimai is a specialty cheese company.  I advised the board on all corporate and constitutional issues, fund raising (including a number of public fund raising initiatives), and all contract and regulatory advice which was relevant to the establishment and operation of that successful business.

Wellington Tenths Trust and Port Nicholson Block Settlement Trust

I advise Wellington Tenths and Port Nicholson Block Settlement Trust, significant owners of property in the Wellington and Lower North Island area, in relation to governance and property matters.

Professional associations and Community Organisations

  • I am a Trustee of the Cuba St Carnival Collective Trust.
  • I spent many years as an advisor for the Lower Hutt Community Law Centre.

What I enjoy outside of work

I enjoy all sports, play golf, ski with the family, surf and go to the occasional movie.  I enjoy socialising. I also undertake voluntary work for the Wellington Trust that runs the biannual Cuba Street Carnival.
