Career to date

"I joined Gibson Sheat's Wellington Office in August 2004 after working as a legal executive for many years in a smaller practice in the Northern Suburbs. Since qualifying as a Legal Executive, I have gained a vast knowledge and experience in all aspects of personal and investment property transactions, as well as subdivisions, trusts, wills & estate administration and trust account administration."

Marie has been a legal executive for many years and has considerable knowledge and skill in residential conveyancing.  Marie also has significant experience in subdivisional work and drafting of conveyancing documents, as well as Wills and trust documentation.

My approach to working with my clients

I like to work in accord with my clients and earn their trust. I ensure their instructions are followed and that their ultimate result is easily achieved. I like to go that extra mile at minimal cost to the client. 

Each contract and client has its own challenges and rewards.  Many clients have complemented me on my professional approach and on completing the transaction with ease.  Many subdivisions can pose a challenge, so it's a great feeling when I can tell a client that the title has issued without difficulty.

An instance when I've given a client a real competitive edge

I believe my knowledge and experience gives each of my clients a competitive edge, as I am able to answer their queries and solve any problems with competence and confidence.  Gibson Sheat has a wide range of programmes and precedents, which I can apply for my clients' benefit, together with notes and information about the whole conveyancing transaction.

The best piece of advice I've ever been given

"Don't try to be someone you are not."

What stimulates me

The challenge of satisfying each client. I love getting positive feedback from both clients and partners for a job well done.  It makes everything worthwhile!

What I enjoy outside of work

Spending time with my husband, exploring holiday haunts, pottering in the garden or just relaxing at home together. I enjoy meeting up with family and friends for dinner, a drink and fun times. I also enjoy walking (in an attempt to keep fit!) and tackling a cryptic crossword (to keep a fit mind!)

If I wasn't a legal executive I'd be...

Who knows! I chose the legal profession from day one of my working life and here I remain. Maybe, I'd be enjoying the sun in my own personal vineyard somewhere!
