About Finn Collins

Career to date

Finn is widely experienced in the resolution of disputes. He also has broad experience in construction law which forms a significant part of his practice. Finn has assisted in the resolution of numerous substantial disputes in both the United Kingdom and New Zealand.

Finn worked for Gibson Sheat for a number of years before taking a position with a leading construction law firm in the UK with an impressive track record for successfully winning adjudications.  Whilst there, he was involved in several significant multi-party complex claims on certain commercial building projects, all of which were successful. Finn returned to Gibson Sheat in February 2009.

Finn’s experience includes procurement and issues such as extensions of time, disruption, loss and expense, defects claims, certification and payment issues and contract interpretation.  A significant part of this experience has been obtained by resolution of disputes using adjudication in both New Zealand and United Kingdom. 

Finn also has extensive experience in acting for large financial institutions dealing with contentious matters.

My approach to working with my clients

I was taught early in my career to focus on issue identification and evidential risk analysis rather than taking the easy option of simply working through a process.  I like to work alongside clients on a merits based approach with a focus on obtaining an early commercial return.  

The best piece of advice I've ever been given

Own, manage and close the job.

What stimulates me

Dispute resolution is a difficult and complex area to work in and the personalities involved often play a large part. It's immensely rewarding to assist in bringing closure to a dispute.

What I enjoy outside of work

Mountain biking.
